I was born in Seattle, WA, and lived there for the first seventeen years of my life. My parents were believers and my early education was at a private Christian school where I received Bible instruction. I did not, however, commit myself at that time to Jesus Christ. I was far more interested in the violin.

I began playing the violin at the age of six. As a violinist, I performed throughout the Northwest and Canada. When I graduated from high school, I enrolled in the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music and then transferred to the Mannes School of Music in New York City. There, I led an immoral lifestyle and soon found myself isolated and depressed.

In the winter of 1985 my father sent me Josh McDowell's book Evidence That Demands a Verdict. Reading that book I recognized my sinfulness and Christ's claim to Lordship over my life. My conversion was sudden, dramatic, and radical. Those who knew me saw the change in my life for which the only explanation was the grace of God at work within me.

Sensing my need to grow in the knowledge of the faith, I joined a Bible-believing church and enrolled in Cedarville College. After graduating with a Bible degree from Cedarville, I attended Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon.

Several years ago, I visited southern India. I saw first-hand the need for Christian workers within the 10/40 window. I asked God for the privilege to be one of those workers. My first wife, Maura, also felt God's call to foreign missions, and we ultimately attended ABWE's candidate classes and were appointed to Mongolia. Unfortunately, Maura suffered an aneurysm and died during pre-field ministry.

The months following Maura's death were difficult, and the children and I struggled to discern God's direction for our life. Ultimately His will became clear as we came to know and love Nicole, a missionary also appointed to the field of Mongolia. Nicole and I were married in January of 1999.

Our family moved to Mongolia in August of 2000. Our first term ends in July of 2004, and we are looking forward to eating some fast food in USA before returning to Mongolia.
